289 HiPo Air Cleaner Decal?

  • Hi,

These three have an rectangular (straight) Autolite decal.

One that is very clear is from the Hot Rod Magazine from Aug.65

Another is the factory picture fron Shelby American where you can

see the date of the radiator, 2-65

A third is the 1965 picture of 5S114 which arrived at Shelby

in the end of March and the radiator is dated 2-65

Got a couple of those and at least one Magazine car with no AUTOLITE decal. That one in addition to the parking lot shots and Killians original car all with no rectangle or curved decal

Did you notice on the one picture (believe it is your #2 where the heater hose clamps had been changed out for worm gear. Typical for the time and one of those details that got changed as I mentioned.

  • Interesting observation about the orientation of the checkered flags, I'd never noticed that before.

I emailed Jim about this and he said he had seen original decals both ways and that the ones he had done were exactly like a NOS air cleaner he had maybe 20 years ago.

    Jim's labels are also glossier.

    <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana" size=2 id=quote>

I assume that's due to the OEM correct cellophane top layer?
