I just got my shifter back from Bill Heely's, MD. Everthing looks great and the price was very reasonable. I also had the shift lever re-chromed. If it shifts as good as it looks! I can't wait to get it installed.

Does look nice.

He does a terrific job. One thing you might want to keep an eye on though; mine came back with a paint coating on the shifter head that flaked off during handling for reassembly. I washed it off with a little lacuer thinner and took it back down to the original finish.
Don't forget your lower dustboot and the wave washers at the shifter rods.

Did he phosphate the shift rods or are they cast blast paint? The shifter cage should be zinc plated.

Couple pics from one of the cars I restored:

The rods are cast blast paint. I do have the wave washer kit.
Did the early '65s come with a lower boot?

It is my understanding that the '65's did not have a lower dust boot, but it was on the '66's. That being said, I have seen several that go back and add the boot by modifying it to fit.

I believe it it appears in the 65 assembly manuals.

No

I know the shift rods need to be phosphate, but for some strange reason I have a severe allergic reaction to the do-it-yourself phosphate process vapors. I have a lot of installed parts that need to be phosphate, but are painted instead.
