Heater Plenum and Water Pump

  • Thought I should share some good news

    with you guys.

This week I found a NOS heater plenum,i.e.

it has never been mounted on a car and of

all places I found it in Sweden. Paid

about $120 for it. Also found the water pump

I have been looking for at ebay. Also $120

and dated 65 with four dots, i.e. April 65 and

    rebuilt.

  • Thanks Charles,

    Is this a correct plenum,i.e. non-tar coated?

The guy who sold it to me wrote a Swedish book

about the early Mustangs. He gave some copies

to MCA Directors in Charlotte some 9 years ago.

  • Thanks Charles, but according to the seller it's never been used only been on a shelf in his garage for, at least, the last 15 years. Will find out this summer if the mounting holes have ever had screws through them.

Dave, just send the list and I'll look. Can't promise anything though, just kidding.

A friend in Sweden called me a couple of weeks ago and said he bought a 4-speed for the parts and when he got home he found

a serial number stamped in the bottom, 7R02K18XXXX. I checked

with Dave Mathews at SAAC and he confirmed it was a Shelby GT350

trans. Contacted the owner of the car who is now negotiating

to buy the trans. So parts are there, for sure.

  • Charles, I have NOS plenums in the Ford box with part number C5ZZ 18471 A. Many years ago when I first got them from Ford they were actually fiberglass pieces. The fiberglass is very crude and I had a dozen of them at one time. Are these the ones that you are calling tar coated? I believe I still have one of the fiberglass ones just for posterity. Ford in later years serviced the same part number but this time it was a hard plastic of some sort and actually are a very nice piece with a Ford logo and engineering number cast into it. It would have been a batter part if Ford had used them in the building of the cars in the first place. I still have a few of them in stock, also for posterity.

Charles, Your description sure matches the fiberglass ones. When I first realized that the part number was still many available years ago, I was excited to be able to order them. That exctiement faded when I received them.

  • Yes saw the ugly tar covered ones many years ago also. Could not believe that was the replacement FORD expected people to use.

NOS- ok couldn't help but post this one below. Only one I've seen ...... they didn't carry this over the parts counter very long

  • Charles, you were correct as usual. I am back from Sweden with

the plenum and it's an excellent used one dated Y5KB.

We checked my friend's Shelby 6S923 if he needed a plenum

but his was excellent as well and date coded the same date

    as his heater core, Y6AB.
