FOR SALE IN THE SPRING

  • Times being what they are, it will be time to sell my 1965 GT K-code fastback this spring. Wanted to give you guys the heads up so you are not suprised to see it advertised. Complete restoration was finished in 2007. It is #'s matching, rangoon red with black pony interior. Console, rally pac, 5 red lines, styled steel wheels. Scheduled build date 6/1/65. Because I am usually judging other classes at shows I unfortunately did not get to meet those of you that saw this kar at various shows the last couple of years. I hope you admired it like I do. Won best in show at the Cedarville NY Car Classic last August. I beleive the K that sold at the Barrett Jackson auction for 68k with the buyers premium was similar in condition to mine so that will probably be my asking price. If any of you are interested, have questions or want pictures please e-mail me at etietz@stny.rr.com

    Thanks, Ed

  • The Kar at Barrett-Jackson was a ragtop which to me does not directly compare with a fastback for values. The B-J Kar has the high profile Rally Pak rather than the correct low profile version which makes me wonder what else has been compromised. The restoration on it may not have been done to the higher standards that I am sure that you used with the restoration of your Kar.

  • I consider convertibles and fastbacks to be similar in value. Only know the BJ K from TV. Looked good to me but maybe in person I would see a different story. If I recall correctly the BJ K did not have the original carb. Mine is original along with the entire rebuilt drivetrain, exhaust manifolds, distributor, fan, disc brakes and working AM radio.

Getting quite a few interested parties via e-mail just from this post yesterday. I will let you guys know how I make out. Thanks,Ed

  • What cars bring at B-J Auction has really nothing to do with what they are worth. It's worth on a givin day what someone will pay for it on that day.B-J Auction is what the letters imply they are with high dollar admission, high dollar commission with plenty of drinks and fluff girls for the high rollers!

  • Remember all the COSTS of that kind of a sale, they take a huge cut, you need to transport it, detail it again, eat, sleep move around on your dime, and oh yes , its their cut. reminds me of suiing rather than negotiating a settlement. Attorneys get a big cut. Your sales efforts might be better rewarded in the end.<img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

  • I think you were selling this car last year for $43k, correct?

Is this the same price that you are selling the car for today?

The market has softened since then. An exceptional car should hold it's value, but it's not going to increase in one year from 43k to 68k in this market.

  • Yes it is the same car. I have since discovered the correct VIN on the block and the tranny. Then the BJ K that went for 68K. I have quite a few people interested just from this post. I am negotiable as interested parties know. If I get what I want it bodes well for the value of our K-codes. If not, I get to keep it and that is just fine with me. I wiil keep you all posted. Thanks, Ed

  • Barrett Jackson is really meesing up the classic car hobby for the real enthusiast. These guys show up with fat check books, and become stars. Some of them are even featured in the credits. What a scam. The prices are ridiculous.

  • Hi Ed.

Congratulations. Did you end up selling it to Ray Law from Oz? If so looks like we got another K heading down under. The more the merrier.

    Regards,

    René

  • Hi Rene,

Thanks for the congrats and yes,Ray bought my K.

Will miss it very much but from my many conversations with Ray,I am sure it is going to a good home. How many K's do you estimate are down under?

I have always had a fasination for amphicars. I might buy one of them and keep it for a while just to see what it is like to drive into a lake. All the best, Ed

    Hi Ed.

According to the bible and adding my kar in, Ray's and TonyC's, there are 29 K's here in oz. So at a guess, there's probably 50 here??? Can't be sure, maybe even more.
