New member and new owner of '65 Fastback K-code

  • Hello,

I am a new member and new owner of a 1965 K-code Fastback. I am looking forward to learning everything there is to learn about K-codes. I will post a photo once I figure out how. Previous owner did a frame on restoration and built it into a 350R. It is vintage burgandy with white stripes. It has original 4-speed trans and 9 inch rear with 3.50 detroit locker rear. The engine is a built 289 but not original block. I have all the original parts removed from the car during 350R transformation and I am debating if I want to take it back to original or leave it as is.

    Thanks,

    John

  • Lots of dolled-up wanna-bes out there, this site supports those who are working toward original, while respecting and admiring the others.<img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

  • Welcome to the forum, John.

  • Enjoy it for what it is until you are sick of it, and wear it out a little. When you are ready to redo it, you can put it back to original. For now, drive the snot out of it and have fun!

  • Welcome I just got a '65 K GT FB too and am having fun. Gotta watch that Fred tho' he knows far too much I reckon he must sleep in his garage !!.

How do you guys figure that there is even any room in my garage to sleep?? If you had seen my garage you would know that there is far more room in the trunk of one of my fastbacks!! <img src=images/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

  • Hmmm... food for thought, instead of readers wives how about members garages ? Freds first <img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

  • Thanks everybody. I brought a pick-up truck load of mostly original parts back this past weekend. I will be bringing the car home this upcoming weekend. Appreciate everybody's support and willingness to help with any questions. I am a purist at heart so I am sure the car will find its way back to its original state it's just a matter of time. I'll try to get some pictures up once the car is here. I've had a few mustangs but this is my first K-code and first '65 fastback. I bought Tony's book so I will start there seeing as it seems to be referred to quite a bit.

  • John, You will really also want to consider getting Bob Mannels book on small block Fords. It is a very detailed reference on anything small block Ford. Bob spent a labor of love of 17 years putting this book together and his work really paid off for us as readers of it.
