let the clutch take the abuse. It's the cheapest part of the drivetrain. You can burn out several clutches for the price of one transmission.
find the lowest rpm that will let you launch without bogging, and let the clutch out as fast as possible without wheel spin.
It just takes practice, and some experimentation.

Were you able to get out over the weekend, how did you do?

I'm going to next weekend to ford nationals days in Alastaro.Let's see if mustang goes under 15 seconds.I try to get soft start with clutch.
is 5000rpm good time to change next gear?
can someone tell me how to make stop the hurst shifters rattle?
most rattles can be reduced by adding a shims or washers to the shifter arms at the rods.
I would shift at the maximum HP rpm. Probably closer to 6000.

the best start:
60ft=2,530
330ft=6,695
660ft=10,214
990ft=13,267
1/4mile=15,867
I change gear on 4500rpm, feels like car is moving better in 3000 - 4000rpm.

Sometimes i feel the peak in 3500rpm, but i'm not sure that did it come this time.
what was you mile per hour? seems like you had some wheel spin. I think you may have shorted yourself shifting so early.
83,89 mph was end speed.
I shift at 6k
My best is 14.3 @ 100 mph

100 is very respectible. could you get in high 13's with a little more traction?
I have taken 2 trips to the drag strip. The last time was 3 years ago.
I really enjoyed it and would like to do it again. Problem finding the time though
Traction was a problem as well as my reaction times.
The 14.3 @ 100mph was with 3.25 gears. I now have 3.80 gears.
Here is link to my 1/4 mile

oops, the text... oh yes...
I think the gears would be 3.89, also called 3.90's. and if you shift @ 6,000 RPM or slightly higher, you should see times drop and speed increase. Try it and see what you get, and then report back to us with the results, we ARE interested.

Beagle1 used to hit the strip, I wonder what his times were and what he used for shift points and rear ratio and tires???<img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
Get some 7"-8" slicks and quite letting the new 5.0's put it on you.The old 289 at 7800rpm is where you should be.My ole 65 Super Stocker Mustang I use to bring out at 10,000rpm and shift it about 10,200rpm and man did it leave!...All shifters ring as that's why they are spring loaded.
I thought the stock cam profile peaked below 7,000 rpm, wouldn't you lose time letting it wind to 7800 ? What am I missing here? <img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
My car total advance was 48 degrees BTDC ! .Now it is 36 degrees and feels like that i get more horsepower.I don't know what is the best advance..Next i change points and let's see what happen..
