• Hi all,

I've been working on restoring my 65 for the past year. It's an early model (Oct 12) fastback. I put it in the registry a little while back.

The car is fully disassembled and has been plastic media blasted. I've attached a couple of pictures. The first one is the car prior to disassembly and blasting. The second one shows what I believe is an original factory marking. Has anyone else seen anything like this?

Anyways, I'm having a great time with the restoration and I hope you'll all put up with a bunch of questions when it comes time to put this all back together.

    Thanks,

    Rick

Welcome to the forum! You have a great project coming along

and you are doing it the right way - first time around!

Were you happy with the results of the plastic media blast? Was it a home project or did you take the car to have it done?

I am considering doing this as well.

    Good Luck

    Ron

  • I had a similar paint marking on the inside of my firewall. Red or orange "HP" applied with a brush.

I also talked to the owner of a very EARLY '64 1/2 HiPo convertable at a MCA show in Tulsa, Oklahoma back in the late 80's - he had photos of this exact marking on his Conv. - it was also in the trunk like yours.

    Good luck on your project!

  • Hi Ron,

This is my first restoration and I definitely wanted to have it all done right. I did some research and looked into chemical dips and other types of media blasting. The plastic media doesn't stress or heat the metal and removes only the paint. You can check out Doug's Auto Craft at http://www.dacmediablasting.com/default.asp. I highly recommend them. Doug is also doing any bodywork that my K needed and he's doing the paint work as well.

The markings on the core support look like a painted on version of the buck tag. I have never seen these before. Great job of documentation!

  • A friend of mine just invested in a soda blasting rig and it is truly amazing what the finished product looks like. He charges $210 an hour and it takes about 2.5 to 3 hours to do a mustang. He is located in lawrenceburg, IN which is a suburb of Cincinnati. If anyone is interested in his service his name is Milt Carley and he can be reached at 812-637-1735. Good Luck.
