I would think that the smarter buyer would be buying the 'K' code marked block and all the odd 'stuff' goes to the kid next door.

Yes, but for that kind of money, it's probably only worth it if you have the car with the matching VIN.
The VIN is in the registry, with last known location in IA.
I guess the other way of looking at it might be a block, crank, and rods....... (assuming they're all HiPo goodies, Brinell mark, etc.)
