  • My NOS air filter that came in the Ford box together with

the NOS air cleaner has a burgundy color and

it appears to be lower than the one shown.

The number shown on the above picture is a FRAM

number CL 183 PL which I don't think is 289 HiPo.

My HiPo FRAM filters have the number CA 181 PL.

If somebody is interested, send me an email and I can

send a photo of the original filter. Can't post here.

It's marked FOMOCO ECJ-9601-C3 on the inside.

    /Bo

The repro's work just fine for me. Buying a NOS air cleaner (at silly prices) seems a little like buying NOS oil filters; you can, but why?

    <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana" size=2 id=quote>

Showing in thouroughbred is the only reason I can think of.

  • I saw this air filter on Ebay and thought the buy it now price was completely rediculous.

I believe that when I get my Kar done that I will run a K&N element when I drive it ($40.00) and use my repro for shows. WOW!!!!!

  • Here's another:

  • And these aren't even the correct one for the 289 HiPo, too tall and too wide. The correct K part# is B7SZ-9601-A (Motorcraft# FA-41). I believe the first application for the FA-41 was the 57 T-Bird 312 4V. Bought several of these when I had that 57 'Bird, now I wish I had bought a few more.

  • cowboys mustang here, the seller of the aircleaner that went for $660. the bidding just got higher and higher. it was a supprise to me as much as you'all. i think having the original shelby invoice with it was what made it jump. the last letter aplication was G not C on this filter element.

Thanks for checking in here, Marty. I'm sure you were nicely surprised that the bidding went as high as it did. Those filters were cheap when they were new. Who would ever think that someone would pay such a high amount for one of them?

  • These older Motorcraft FA-41's are a tad smaller than the original FoMoCo filters like Bo has pictured above and as such IMHO look a little goofy inside the HiPo air cleaner housing. The repops now are so good and fit better.

  • PRICES ARE ALL OVER THE PLACE!! I guess the Autolite piece is worth a premium.

  • Probably because they FIT like they are supposed to...

Still not worth that kind of money even if you are doing thouroughbred IMHO. But I refuse to pay $687 for a 4201 fuel pump too. I guess I'm just cheap...

  • Wonder what's up with these round mesh Motorcraft FA-41s lately? A few months ago you could get these all day long for ~$75. Dang it, looks like I sold mine too soon.
