C50F -J vs C40F-AL Autolite Carbs

  • Can someone explain the differences in these two Autolite Carburators for me?

Is one more correct than the other for a 64.5 K code, 4 speed that was made in July 1964?

    Thanks

  • The only real as built difference between the two are jet sizes. The C4OF-AL uses 51 primary and 70 secondary jets. The C5OF-J uses 52 primary and 68 secondary. Both carburetors are for use with a PCV valve.

  • In the Ford Carburetor Guide (Pony Carbs Inc), a C5OF-J was used after Feb 15, 1965. Prior to that date, the C4OF-AL was used with a C5OF-L tag (pg 94-95). (Note: -L vs - J suffix.)
