The HiPo belt for 65-67's equipped with an alternator
is longer than the standard belt, 41.25" and width is 3/8".
Part number is C5OZ-8620-A and marking on the belt
C5OE-8620-K.

There are two different P/S belts in 1966 depending upon whether you have A/C or not. The P/S with A/C runs around the crank and water pump pulley and the belt without A/C only runs around the crank pulley. The crank and water pump pulleys are both different for both applications and the belt without A/C is wider. Your crank and water pump pulley stamping numbers will help to determine what belt that you will need.

Original Ford belt lengths were according to S.A.E. measurements. It requires special equipment to measure the S.A.E. length of a belt. In 1969 Ford went with a circumference measurement. For the 1965-66 289 HiPo (and 1967 289 HiPo without Thermactor smog control), the outside circumference was 41.4". The original bely part number was C5OZ-8620-A and marked C5OE-8620-K. The 1969 Ford replacement was C9PZ-8620-GM and carried a J-number of JB-414.

I believe the C9PZ-8620-GM, JB-414 replacement is still available from Ford.

you guys are awesome. I will try the ford part number for the non A/C P/S belt. The hipo part number, as it relates to modern part numbers is still unknown. Anyone else?

-
Bo, do you know ANY current part number for the Alt. belt? we want to fire off this engine this weekend, and have no belt.
Thanks.Dunc

The number that Mad4HiPos gave you of a JB 414 is close to the current Ford number. The actual new Ford part number is a JB 414-L1. I have them in stock but it probably would not make it to you for the weekend without going Priority mail. You can take that JB 414 number to any auto parts store and they can cross it to one of their numbers.

I bought repro HiPo belts many years ago with
the correct markings and still have them on both the
65 and 67.

My HiPo will need the correct original belt, but the Restomod will take what ever works, thanks for the input.

-
Fred, can you email me or call, I might need the belt from you, quickly. Thanks, Duncan. 800-391-2180.

You do realize the repros should be available from any of the mustang vendors.
NPD's part # for the alternator belt is 8620-20 @ $19.95
There appears to be two diffent belts for the power steering depending on whether the pump is an Eaton. The Eaton pump part # is 8620-49, the Ford pump part # is 8620-50.
I just noticed the Eaton pump was only used in 65 so for your 66 you need the 8620-50.

Fred is, as always, absolutely correct. Just checked the belt hanging in my garage and the Motorcraft number is JB 414-L1, Ford number is C9PZ-8620-GMA.
