What's the purpose of the 4 very small holes that are near the blower fan mounting holes? It seems a little pointless to have more opportunites for water to get in...
holes near blower fan on firewall

Thats a very good question. My firewall is completly bare and never really took notice to these, not for a seal, the seal just gets sandwitched between the mounting housing and firewall.
Just wondering if they all have them, mine is a 66.

I've also wondered that too. Maybe they were locator holes for the fan motor that were put in the wrong place and they didn't bother to change the tooling?
-
I had forgotten about them. Mine are there, too.

The holes you describe are used when the heater delete option was ordered. Those holes are used with the blockoff plate that seals the firewall. The plate was mounted from inside the car.

Thanks for the info William,Ill be sure to put a dab of silicone on the inside upon reassembly<img src=images/icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Sometimes the obvious is so.... well... obvious!
Still learning about these cars, that's what makes it so interesting!
