CAMSHAFT MARKINGS

  • Chuck,

Based on the Ford parts book and the Muscle parts book supplement number 1, the following is the best information that I have:

C9ZZ-6250-A 1969 Boss 302 markings are upside down A with an EB

D0ZZ-6250-A 1970 Boss 302 markings are upside down A with an ED

Basically the markings are the same as our Hipo 289 cam with an additional suffix. I cannot figure out a way to make an upside down A on a computer. I could find no reference to paint colors. The interesting thing about the Boss 302 camshafts is that they are identical in specs to each other. I do not know what other physical differences may exist however by 1980 the 69 camshaft was replaced with the 70 camshaft by Ford. The Boss 302 camshaft has far less duration than the Hipo 289 camshaft at 290 degrees compared to our 310 degrees.

  • I've been told by several sources that the 289 HiPo Camshaft is better in the Boss 302 than the stock Boss 302 Camshaft. I just recently sold a HiPo Cam to a fellow that is going to put it in his Boss 302. He said that is was pretty common knowledge over at the Boss 302 site that the HiPo Cam was better for the Boss 302 than the Boss Cam.

  • The C9OZ 6250 A is just a standard passenger car camshaft.
