Another Date Code Question

  • Actually the correct date on the above distributor is July, 1965 first week. The A-E codes in the third position indicate weeks of the month. Ford did not use calandar days on FoMoCo distributors. A Motorcraft distributor of a similar number would be 5G30 which would mean that it was built on July 30, 1975. Being a Motorcraft number it could also be 1985 except that by 1985 Ford was using a single point housing with a tin block off for the vacuum advance unit. The numbers on that unit are only on a tin tag screwed down where the vacuum advance unit would have been. There can really be no confusion on this particular date code as being a FoMoCo unit.
