Changing Spark Plugs

  • Hi Everyone,

I am trying to change my spark plugs for the first time but I'm having some trouble. I am unable to get my spark plug socket wrench head onto spark plugs in cylinders 3 and 8. It seems to be hitting something, like the exhaust heads. Has anyone else come across this problem before? Everything is 100% original.

Any help would be greatly apreciated.

    Thanks

  • Another way may be to find a very thin spark plug socket.

If you can't find one, there is no way around untighten

the exhaust manifold bolts like Charles said.

If you have to go that route don't forget to make sure

you have enough room when you tighten them again.

Otherwise the same thing next time.

    /Bo

  • If you must loosen the manifold, you might consider relieving the manifold with a grinder so you eliminate the problem. You might also grind the sparkplug wrench and see if you can get at it that way, so the manifolds are still unmodified.

  • I have had this same problem with original exhaust manifolds more than once. This is fixed, as Charles says, by loosening and holding the exhaust manifolds up while tightening them back down. I even have some really thin wall sockets that will not fit when the manifolds are too low. The interference is with casting flash and it is not always the same on all manifolds.
