4100 Carb conversion to automatic

  • I have an original 66 K code Carb for a manual trans, but I need one for an automatic. Ideally I'd like to find the right carb - anyone have one for sale?

Alternately I would consider changing this to an "Automatic" carb. Anyone know the differences? Some reference talk of a "dashpot"? Anyone have pictures? Part numbers of the parts that are different between the two??

  • The carburetor differences are detailed in the 1966 Mustang Service Manual. The dashpot itself is available new, sometimes, or e-bay. Use e-bay for pictures. The bracket is best found in a junk yard on all 221, 260 and 289 engines with an automatic. It is a gentle right angle bend.

  • thanks!

Kinda new to the car - although have had mustangs before (67 convertable). Where would I find a 66 service manual? Is there a parts manual somewhere too?

More details on the differences between the carburetors is available on page C-13 of Bob Mannels small block Ford book. It gives you not only jet sizes but venturi booster numbers as well. For engine information this book far surpasses any other Ford available publication.
