• My Koupe is at the engine shop for a rebuild. Is there anything in particular to watch out for or to consider doing to make the engine more agreeable with today's gas?

  • On mine I hadn't planned on replacing the valve seats but they were not serviceable so I elected to put in the hardened ones-to me its no harm no foul as I will eventually be driving my Kar.

I have been told by a few automotive machineists that the hardened seats are not super nessessary unless you are driving the car hard every day....

  • Not trying to steal a thread but Along these same lines when rebuilding is there anything that can be done without effecting value and originality to add a few more ponies.

  • I had hardened seats put in my heads when the engine was overhauled 9 years ago. 43,000 miles later I have no regrets. There are plenty on arguments about it being necessary or not. But the cost isn't much, and then you have one less worry.

  • Hardened valve seats in my opinion is a must. My engine builder whom I have been using for 20 years wont even consider building heads without them. The other major consideration is having the engine balanced. On a true hipo you might have to leave out the (hatchet) weight, but that would enable you to use a double timing chain. Hey in the end it all comes down to what you want, and how you will use it. (I guess the hardened seats are the engine builders opinion) but I trust him.<img src=images/icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

I agree. Really no point in having a Hi-Po without hitting 6500 rpm often, Without a quality balance job that would be risky.
