HiPo Mustang window sticker idea

  • I think that we need a "club" type window sticker, like the MCA ones only better looking & for HiPo cars. Just thinking out loud, but I would bet that a place like CafePress.com could probably make them cheap. One question though: Do MCA ones go on the inside of the windshield, like the old state park stickers, or on the outside? I would think that inside would be better & more durable. Might be cool to have it be somewhat metallic, too.

  • I think it is a great idea, why don't you contact them and offer some of the ideas that were floated for the T-shirts, and get a quote ... surely, 500-1000 would be gobbled up if the price were right? eay?

  • I don't know about other vendors, but at cafepress.com (no, I don't work from them) a person or business can set up their own "store". I've ordered bumper stickers from them with my own designs. All you do is upload a picture (.bmp, .jpg) and they put it on high-quality vinyl stock. As for 500-1000 of them, I won't pre-buy them, but if I can find a vendor, maybe there would be some way to arrange for Hank (our host here) to get proceeds for the site in exchange for using a site-related logo similar to the one on the fender protectors.

Charles, do you know if your club gets their stickers at a local source or online?

  • I can work on some design ideas (when I have time!) Would be a fun project. Does Ford "own" the HiPo 289 emblem design or do you think we could actually use it without licensing it for this project?

Ford would own the "289 High Performance" emblem design. But this website and the Tony Gregory book both use images of it... Maybe Hank (RacCol) could shed some light on the issue. Also, I believe the MCA logo (and others) use the tri-bar running horse emblem (or a drawing of it).

  • Tony Gregory got rights from Ford in the process of doing The 289 High Performance Mustang book- the extent of rights is unknown. So as an agent for him, I should be able to use that right. Unfortunately, when Tony supplied me with the materials for the book, there was no letter from Ford Legal. He has since looked for it, but could not find it. I was in the process of looking into Hats since so many people have asked me about them. My Vendor said that he was not sure that I would want to pursue it as Ford has had this "clamp-down". So I decided to wait and see. At that time, I forgot that Tony had received some rights from Ford and that would probably cover me. What do you think? Should we pursue Hats and Stickers since we have received some rights through Tony?

  • BTW- I checked with CafePress and they do not make this type of sticker. An internet search yielded lots of "window decals" and "windshield decals" from other sources.

Maybe a mega-package: Buy a hat and 2 license plate frames, and get a free sticker!

  • The Mega Package would make a lot of sense because the shipping for the Decal would be more than the Decal. I had style of Hats chosen and even artwork made up before I pulled the "plug". I'll try to dig out that artwork and post it. It was going to be a Black Hat (I know that black is hot, but it won't show those fingerprints as much) with a Black/White Checkboard on most of the Visor. We would have a Silver/Gold HiPo Emblem on the Front of the Hat, Silver/Gray "K-Code" on one side of the Hat, and Silver/Gray "HIPOMUSTANG.COM" on the back arched around the opening. Let me know what you think?

  • Sure beats a flattop cap made to look like a hipo air cleaner, with earflaps that have sewn-on emblems and a 4-blade propeller coming out the front!

Or how about a black Stetson with checkered band and Hipo patch on the front? Just kidding - it is late on a Friday.

I propose a hat/sticker combo with Marv's design, but the sticker version would have "HIPOMUSTANG.COM" under the "289" or above the emblem.

  • I had a vendor make up a hipo 289 emblem shirt. I haven't received it yet but he says it came out real nice. Now that he has the master he can put them on any shirt or hat of your choice. The ones I had made up are on their way, as soon as I get them I'll post a picture.

Marv, check your mail for contact information.

  • I was hoping the stickers, or decals, would still be made, I'd be a buyer for a bunch, the shirt idea is good, tho I would prefer a white polo with the logo sewn on more of a custom thing. If someone comes up with a way to take shirts we send and sew the hipo emblem on them and possibly a name, that would be the ultimate. I am partial to the higher quality pima cotton polos LandsEnd sells, they are reasonable, soft and available by mail. I would commit to several of thoseanyone else? I am not a hat person

  • The shirts I had made are embroidered, polo is available though I had mine done on denim. This guy specializes in high performance Ford items but didn't have the 289 hipo until I gave him a logo to make a pattern out of.

  • Thanks Merlyn, I got the contact info. I will check with him after I speak with the fellow who I have been dealing with- that will give me a benchmark to compare. And yes, I was going to put the website on the Emblem as well.

  • I just spoke with my Vendor and he said that he had just received a call from one of his customer's and Ford is at it again. The License Plate did not have Ford, any of it's logos, only the word Mustang and they are going after him. So for the time being, let's just set tight and see if this will settle down a bit. It makes not sense at all that they are spending all this time and money on this when they should be putting all of their energys on keeping from going bankrupt! If things settle down, we should be able to move on it quickly.

Especially when they give executive parting gifts. "Here's your cash, thanks for hosing the company. Bye now."

We could do a new custom V8 engine logo of our own that says something like "Hi-Po Pony Club".
