Which way is on , which way is off?? I remember my original can back in 1973 having the switch pushed down to turn on, and pulled up to turn off.....

Up is on, down is off on the 66 type.

This is, I believe a '66 type switch as it is a reproduction....were the '65s the other way??

James is correct that the switch is the same for 65 and 66, however the plug on the switch is opposite as far as male and female ends.

OK, So regardless of what year switch it is it still works the same way in that UP is ON and DOWN is OFF??

Rick, I am confused by the UP and DOWN terms as the switch moves front to rear. If you pull the switch toward you, which is the rear, that is the ON position. That is not unlike a headlight switch.

Whatever you do dont come to the UK cos you will be really stuffed - our house light switches are UP for off and DOWN for on , you could spend the whole visit in the dark !!
