When my shifter knob is tightened all the way down to the disc-shaped nut, the gear diagram is crooked. So I thought I'd move the nut a little. Question is, what kind of tool do you use?

Won't that scratch the chrome? I see that the nut has a couple of small holes in it, so I figured those would be used somehow.

The holes are for use with a "spanner" wrench which has pins that are fixed to line up with the two holes in the chrome nut. These tools are available in adjustable styles, and are often used in servicing and assembling certain types of bottom brackets on bicycles.

Sorry for that reply. I've been meaning to change the shifter knob on an '05 Ford GT and it has a hex nut base, sorry about the confusion!

Offset snap ring pliers will also work if you have them handy.
