Mystery Engine Sticker?

  • Does anyone know what the stickers in the pics below are? They appear to be attached to the water pump. Both pics are Shelby American 65 GT350 publicity photos but I see no reason for them to be Shelby specific. The car in the top pic is 5S114 and was taken in June, 1965. I don't know the VIN of the car in the bottom pic but assume it's somewhat close since both cars have 2-65 dated radiators.

  • I believe early 65's they were placed on the water pump as your pictures show. Sometime during the 65 model year they started installing them on the coil or coil bracket.

  • Thanks guys, mystery solved. I was thinking this looked like the engine ID decal you see on the coil but had never seen it installed on the water pump until taking a close look at these pics.

  • Mustangs Unlimited sells two different types of

this decal, 64 1/2 and 65 type respectively.

They are both marked C1 554 J and the only

difference seems to be the color of the decal

and the price. Which one is on this Shelby Dave

showed a picture of. 5S114 was produced in March 65

at Ford. Could it be the waterpump placed is the early

one 64 1/2 and the coil placed is the later 65.

  • If you settle for the stickers (they are plastic rather than the original paper) at least tear the ends with a tape dispenser or a hacksaw blade to reproduce the original end (they appear to have been on a spool of stickers.

  • Hi Jeff,

Got the engine decal from Mustangs Unlimited

yesterday and it has the perforations in both

ends you were talking about. Looks like they were

    taken off a spool. C1 554J

Now, if I can find a rebuildable correctly dated 65 water pump.

Have one Jan 65 but it's very pitted and almost

impossible to see the date code. Date should be 65 with either

3 or 4 dots, don't you think for an early May built car.

    Merry Christmas,

    /Bo

  • Hi Charles,

You are correct. I should have said engine assembly date.

which was May 3, 1965 and car was received at Shelby on

May 13, so the dates are very close. What date do you suggest on

    waterpump?

    Thanks,

    /Bo
