  • According to Bob Mannel's SBF book fuel pumps used a day, month, and year format (pg. 5-25) making this a 1969 pump. It codes for March 5th, 1969, 2nd shift (?).

    5 = 5th day

    C = March (3rd month)

    9 = 1969

    B = 2nd shift (?)

    Does the body have CARTER or CARbureTER cast in it?

  • Richard, Please note that the pump date code absolutely is with the day of the month first, month in the next position and the year in the third position. I have restored over 200 of these pumps and they all follow that sequence. Using the first number as the year, how would you decode the following:

    11L4A, 24M4A, 28G5A, 12K8A, 14M4A, 15A9A, 15F7B, 15H9A, 12A6A, 22M5A, 17C6A, 19L4A

    These are just a few examples of some of the ones that I have done and some that I still currently have in my possession. Everyone might want to check the date codes on your own fuel pumps to see where you stand on this.

  • Fred is absolutely correct, his info matches what I posted earlier as referenced in Bob Mannel's book. Bob even makes note that fuel pump dating (day, month, year) is different from the more typical year, month, day format. I have two original fuel pumps. One is an original 66 4193S CARbureTER casting that was restored by Fred and has a 14A6A date code. The other is a NOS 4201S CARTER casting with a 22A9A date. The day, month, year format is the only one that makes sense. Also, according to Bob's book this format was started in 1965 and used at least through 1969.

  • Here is a little known tidbit of information regarding 3939-S fuel pumps. Ford actually used the 3939-S pump on some 1969 Ford F100 pickup trucks with a 302. These must be the elusive Muscle Parts Specials trucks from 1969 or maybe NASCAR or Holman and Moody Special trucks. <img src=images/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle> The pump in question as to the date code could very well have been a rebuilt version of one of the F100 pickup truck pumps or an over the counter replacement pump built in 1969. Either way, it is definitely not an original 1965 vintage pump.

  • Shane, Did you ever contact RPM (Robert Price) regarding this error of selling you an incorrectly dated fuel pump?

  • Fred , thanks for your interest , Yes i Did Recieve a Reply From Robert,its Not Good News for me.

    Reply : I'm sorry about that if that is the case but you made the choice to buy it after I gave you all the info like you described.I keep all my e-mails when dealing with people but it was rebuilt by Ford or an independant rebuilder for them so I didn't rebuild it either.I lost money by shipping and cut a deal with paper work etc. to you.Sorry don't know what I can do as I sell everything as is,where is with NO returns or warranties.His ( FRED ) opinion is just that and and he's wrong about the date but can't imagine what Ford had in mind.I was done with the deal after I shipped it...Sorry

  • Fred , paid $1500 for unit , then had too resend too U.S. for Rebuilding .I was just real happy too have Finally got the last Item too complete my Engine ,Now im Real Unhappy finding out that pump Date Code has been Misrepresented.

  • Shane, You have certainly stepped up to the plate in buying this pump. I am sure that Robert originally thought that he was correct on the date code. With all of the information out there and what has been covered in this thread, there should be no doubt in Roberts mind that he is now incorrect in his original assumption of the date code. He has already stated that I, Fred, am wrong regarding this issue however everyone else that has posted on this thread are in agreement about the 1969 rather than a 1965 date code. I would think that with all of this knowledge and support from this public forum that another communication with Robert would now be appropriate. He should do something to make this situation right for you.
