Wire Loom Decals

  • A recent question was posed relating to the installation of wire loom decals - were they installed wrapped around the looms or were they stuck to themselves?

Here are some examples of loom decals to better illustrate the question:

#1 is an older Ford over-the-counter NOS emergency flasher harness.

#2 is a later service NOS reverse light.

#3 is a main harness that that appears to have a clear tape wrapped around it. I don't think Ford would have taken this step, but it's worth showing for this discussion.

#4 is a later service NOS park light.

  • I have several looms/harnesses that are NOS. All but 1 have the Fomoco logo. My Underdash has a very late 60's white Ford tag. Most of these tags are rolled around itself. The part numbers on these are the last part of the tag so the number is shown. My NOS Headlight feed, underdash, engine feed, 2 spd wiper, console, door speaker/courtesy light, trunk, 4 spd switch harness and rally pack all have rolled tags. However, the GT fog pigtails, alternator harness, backup and park lights all have the Fomoco tags stuck together as you've described. From my observation this is a part sepcific detail. The wiring that tends to be shorter than about 12" is labeled with a tag stuck together, where the longer harnesses are rolled. However, I only have one of each to look at. Mine are all assembly line version harnesses. Perhaps later Ford replacements could be different.

  • we have come across quite a lot of these NOS decals

    when wiring my son's car

it had the big round rubber sleeves on them

we took these off and re-wrapped with electrical tape

unfortunately, we covered up a few

    before coming across this thread

    from now on

and especially on my K kar

    i'll leave these visable

even tho they are usually very fragile!

    thanks for post
