Top Gear, anyone?

  • Anyone here a fan of Top Gear, the BBC high-performance car show?

It is always entertaining, and often the 3 hosts will do silly competitions like race a Ferrari against an airplane to see who can get across Germany quicker. They have done a few shows where they modify cars to see who can get theirs across the English Channel quicker. Usually at least 2 of them sink.

Of course, they also look at the new models of cars and test them on a closed track.

  • I'm still trying to convince my head to accept that show. It has the wackiest format of anything I've seen before. Especially so, when as you point out, the three of them are engaged in their seemingly nonsensical racing from start point A to finish point B. Duh!

Still, they do seem to be brutally candid about their likes and dislikes (e.g. the negative bit on the F150 pickups' quality control a couple of weeks back), and I admire that.

  • It's a great show. Last night they went from San Francisco to the Bonneville salt race track in a Corvette ZR1, Cadillac CTS-V and a Dodge Challenger. They actually had to buy the Challenger because Dodge wouldn't give them one due to them always saying how bad their cars are. Long story short, they liked all the cars.

We had an Australian version of Top Gear which I didn't find good at all. The chemistry between the 3 Brits is what makes the show work, well besides all the cars of course.
