Repro 9" Housings?

  • Anyone noticed Mustangs Unlimited ads in Musclecar Enthusiast showing they have a repro for the 65 and 66 9" housings?

Was wondering if anyone has seen them or used them, seems a lot of money to me but could they be any good?

  • There was an individual I think on Ebay who claimed to be makeing a 100% accurate reproduction of the K code rear end housings, it was a while back, and I don't remember what the price was.

I wonder what a nice restored original unit is worth with 3rd member??

  • That same person who runs ads on E-Bay also posts here and i think is a member. The housing is like $2200-$2500 and he is crazy if you ask me.You can get a fabricator to make one for alot less money but to some people money is no object or what is asked for price from most of these members!

  • Don't think the ebay-ers are doing the ones I've seen advertised. They were on the inside jacket of the last Musclecar Enthusiast I received.

On the subject, what are everyone's thoughts on this mag? I'm in Australia and find it very informative for someone without the everyday background in US muscle.

  • Hi guy's, I recently bought one of those fabricated 9's off of E-bay. Well to make the story short, the tubes were out of square 1.5". I couldn't even get the right side axle shaft into the pumpkin. The left side axle bearing seated a quarter of an inch out of the housing ( tube to short) My original ( found out it has a matching k code serial number stamped in front just by the brakeline strap, pasenger side ) that was rusty and pitted went back in and the housing from E-bay went for scrap metal. If you see one of these beuties on E-bay Run as fast as you can the other way. thanks.

If you have a VIN stamped in the axle housing please post an image.

  • At any given time one can find most anything for sale on e-bay. I have seen many 9 inch housings,(repro's) in just about every configuration. i have recently spent several years making drawings and debugging the drawings and ordering tooling and debugging tooling to get the housings I make right on. Not long ago I sent two housings to Mustangs Unlimited to sell for me. They were two of the first repro's I built with no new spring perches but new flanges and tubes. To my knowledge they still have them. There are people to this day who think the 8 inch tubes are the same so they attach them to a 9 inch center section and whoopeeeee, look what I have done.Been there done that. My housings were shown at the 45th anniversary and the exchange guys saw them and the feedback is on the exchange. Iam offering mine foe 1000,00 each at this time. Thats a bargain. You cannot tell the difference except mine are powder coated and look like they have never been used. Thanks Don Quillen dq29686@aol.com

  • That's great Don,

I've sent you 2 pm's so far as I'm interested in these housings. I would organise shipping to Australia myself if I went forward, but have yet to hear from you.......

    Cheers

  • I don't have a digital camera but when I get one I will post a picture of the serial number. But the axle housing should not have a serial number stamped. I don't know why mine does. It may be because my car has a 89 DSO. the car was in shambles when I bought it. Rear of body has been replaced from other car I think this car was raced heavily at one time.

  • I saw a nice original (housing only) at the all-ford in pa. this spring, asking $900.00. Never seen a vin stamp on the rear housing, would like to see a pic of that.....Billy
