Fate can be a funny thing. I'm glad I waited to pull over for lunch.
So, I'm out exercising my 1965 Konvertible today, after doing an oil change, and tightening up the new KYB gas shocks. Perfect weather. Led Zeppelin II playing on the tape deck LOUDLY. Top down, of course.
While I'm driving and daydreaming, I start running through in my head the very SMALL punch list of things left to do to my car for this season. I remembered that I still hadn't checked the tire pressures, and now was a good time to get the tires topped off, with the new KYBs and all...
I'm at a gas station out in the middle of nowhere to get some air. A few people around the car asking questions about it as I air up, mechanics and a few customers. You guys know the drill. I popped the hood for them.
All of a sudden, this dude from a lawn service truck comes over and starts asking me the usual questions. We chit chat for a while. Then he says "Are you interested in a NEW IN THE FORD BOXES set of open letter Cobra aluminum valve covers from 1967?"
I'm like "Uhhhm....Sure."
Dude is into Model T's, and the valve covers came in a boatload of Model T parts he got from the estate of some Model T dude who died. He also said "It's got a sticker in the box, too, just like this one (pointing to my air cleaner). A hundred bucks for them?"
I'm meeting with him tomorrow to do the exchange. I also Emailed him to check in his Model T parts to see if he has the HiPo air cleaner, as obviously (because of the sticker) these valve covers are part of the "dress up kit."
Wish me luck.
If I score, pictures tomorrow. <img src=images/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>
