Correct intake manifold.

  • I have a 1965 K Coupe that was built on August 20, 1965. When I bought the car, the intake was missing. I'm looking for a date code correct intake. My vin. code tag shows date code shows 20V. So, do I need a 5 V 20 intake date or a 5 H 20 date code? I'm thinking 5 V 20.

Date codes on parts are regular letter "A: through "M", eliminating the "I" as it can be confusing. GM does use the "I" for September, but not Ford. Therefore your 5H20 would be more correct although the parts should be dated some time before the actual build date .

  • Hello Fred. On page 316 of "Mustang Does It" under Date Codes, it shows, the first year code H and second year code V. Also my data plate shows the date 20V for August 20th not 20H. Thanks, Al.

  • Date codes N thru Z (no "O" was used) are for second year build cars using the same year in the VIN, like 64 1/2 and 65 both used the "5" as the first character in the VIN. For components, distributors, carburetors, fenders, etc, the letters A thru M (again, no "I") were used.

  • My suggestion would be to look at the assembly date on the block, which is located on the drivers side of the block where the head bolts to the block. The other date I would look at is the casting number on the block on next to the starter. This should give a decent range. Rule of thumb is it would be acceptable to be 2 months before the assembly date on the block. This is assuming the block is original to the vehicle.
