I do have a set of hipo heads dated 3C6. One head did suck a valve and will need some work around the valve seat area. It is saveable.

My suggestion would be to look at the assembly date on the block, which is located on the drivers side of the block where the head bolts to the block. The other date I would look at is the casting number on the block on next to the starter. This should give a decent range. Rule of thumb is it would be acceptable to be 2 months before the assembly date on the block. This is assuming the block is original to the vehicle.

Maybe there Forum board called yellow light or 'air cars' listing all the VIN numbers sold with titles only. SAAC web site has a similar forum for Fake Shelby's. At least VIN numbers would be easy to reference.

In my experience fully degreed balancers were used on R model mustangs. If your motor was ever balanced with the fully degreed balancer then I would leave this on. The date code 5E does sound right for a late 1965 shelby.
