Comments:

1965 Ford Mustang K-code 289/271 horsepower 4-speed Convertible in beautiful Vintage Burgundy with a Palomino tan bucket seat Pony interior, white convertible power top, white side stripes, and chrome Rallye wheels. Gorgeous condition, matching numbers car from California with only 57,793 miles!! The original solid lifter 289/271 horse engine has no modifications from factory stock and is still fitted with the correct dual-point distributor, correct 20-casting HiPo heads, correct HiPo exhaust manifolds, correct Motorcraft dual accelerator pump 4-barrel carburetor, and correct open element aircleaner assembly. Fires right up and settles into a lopey idle with a deep aggressive exhaust note and the gentle ticking of the solid lifters. Pulls hard through the rev range and runs like a K-code should. Will spin the tires with the throttle in first & second gears and the four barrel carb howls when you floor it in third & fourth. Runs nicely on pump gas and there are no mechanical issues; no smoke, no leaks, no noises. These engines were factory rated at 271 horsepower but Carrol Shelby rated them at 306 horsepower when installed in his GT350s. In fact, these K-code Mustangs are virtually identical to Shelby GT350s but with a smoother ride (softer springs & shocks). The 4-speed transmission shifts perfectly with excellent synchronizers & no gear whine, the factory 9" 3.50 positraction rearend provides a nice balance between relaxed cruising and powerful acceleration, and a new clutch, pressure plate, & throw out bearing have just been installed. Factory disc brakes for safe stops and factory quick-ratio 16:1 steering box. Deluxe Pony interior in correct Palomino Tan with the full length center console and woodgrain dash. Factory 140 mph speedometer, factory Rallye gauges for Oil Pressure, Water Temperature, and Amps, and factory Rallye Pak with the 8000 RPM tachometer (K-code only) & clock. Very nice factory woodgrain three spoke steering wheel. Excellent dash with no warping and no sunfade on the gauges. Excellent center console with no pitting and no scratches. Excellent seats front & rear, excellent carpets, excellent inner door panels. Factory AM radio still in place. Dual side mirrors with remote for the driver. Factory Day/Nite rear view mirror. Extremely nice body with no dents, no dings, no waves, and I cannot find any body filler or any patch panels anywhere. All panels fit perfectly and all gaps are factory perfect. Extremely nice paint in correct Vintage Burgundy done in modern base/clear acrylic urethane, block sanded to a smooth finish, and repeatedly buffed to a brilliant shine. White convertible top in excellent condition (less than 2 years old); goes up & down smoothly & quickly when you press the button and the snap on factory parade cover is included. Excellent chrome bumpers front & rear, excellent chrome door handles, excellent chrome tail lights, excellent brightwork & trim. Factory GT foglights and through the valence trumpet exhaust tips. Quick-ratio (16:1) steering box. Correct white side stripes. Factory chrome Rallye wheels fitted with period correct white wall radials. The trunk contains the spare tire, jack assembly, and trunk mat. Just professionally detailed, polished, hand waxed, and turn key ready for cruises and shows. Runs & drives beautifully. VERY NICE CAR!!

  • This Kar is not as originally built. It was not a GT, did not have pony interior and was not this outside or interior color. It did have an 8 inch rear end in it at one time and I am unclear as to whether the rest of the drive train is original. Other than that, it is all original.

  • Well, you know when it has a whole page of chatter to go with the photos, there's something wrong with it. A truly great car does its own talking. Bet it gets a lot of attention on the street, though.

  • MCA rules will dock 25 points right off the top for wrong exterior color. Still not a bad looking car, but the color changes hurt!

  • Its a rebody! plus the dates are way off and it was poppy red orginally no brackets in the frame rails, choke hole to small, vin restamped on apron, snubber plate on body incorrect typical 6 cylinder one.

Nathan, does this mean that you were able to perform a personal inspection on this car? If so, this is great information as I have followed this car for years and it was always suspect with me however, I never was able to see this car in person.
