• I've been scratching my head wondering what tire I should be getting for my 66 vert restomod. I've decided to go with the 70's Minilite look, and am using superlite 15X7's. I am looking for a very good ride, but also good handling and of course [ think Seattle ] wet braking. Discount tire has quite a range, and has a store close by, so I want to make a choice that I will be happy to live with for a long time. While good choices are solicited, those to avoid are also appreciated. The size that seems in the ball park is a 205/65-15. But size suggestions are also requested for my wheel size. Thanks in advance.

  • I can't directly speak about performance on an early 'stang, but I've had great luck with BFG KDWS performance tires on my '98 GT - simply the best wet traction tire I've ever had. They wear a little fast, but they are a great both dry and wet. I hear that BFG has a new version of All Season performance tire coming out too. I'd definitely check them out.

  • I am running 15x7 Magnum 500's with 215/60-15 Goodrich tires. I love the look, but my tires squeal like hell on slow turns in parking lots. I think it may be because of the width of the tread. I have read some where that wide tires contribute to bump steer too. The car was designed for 4" or 5" wide tires wasn't it?. I have a set of 205/65 Eagles that are going on in the spring. My front end is tight except for a little play in the idler arm, so that may contribute to the tire squeal because of toe change, but when I had 14" 70 series tires, I did not have that problem. I know alot of people are running 60 series and even 50 series, it would be good to hear from them also.

how are the clearances in the front? Rear?

If your asking me, way too close in the front. About 1/4 inch from the upper control arm to the tire, and they rub in full lock turns in reverse. Should have mentioned that in above post. Just another reason to go narrower. I got a great deal on e-bay for these wheels, still in the box, but I wonder if the offset isn't quite what it should have been and that's why these were sold cheap. I paid 400 with centers and shipping for all 4. Later, the seller was at 500 plus shipping. Either he made a mistake the 1st sale or there was a reason for the low price.

215/65-15's are also a good fit, depending on the wheel B/S.

  • Goodyear Eagles....205-60/15's in front and 225-60/15's in the rear. I'm running American Racing TT D's with the standard 3.75" backspacing. It's a tight fit in front, but they've never rubbed, and I didn't roll the fenders.

I've just mounted 205/65-15's on the rims and will see how they fit, they're Michelin.

  • The wheels are from an outfit in Arizona, packracingproducts.com packracingproducts.com. The wheels are 15X7 with 12mm + offset, or 4.41" [inches] positive. this moves them[ tires ] further from the fender lip, and , so far, doesn't touch the spring/uprights, or my bigger rotors. I'm not up to

speed on cutting and pasting the photos, perhaps you can go to their site and bring over a pic. call Terry there, 1-866-855-3473. He's a big help.
