65/66 Mustang 9" rear ID?

I have a 9" rear axle assembly that I was told came from a 65 or 66 Mustang. How do I positively identify which year and if it is the correct rear for a Mustang? It has a drain plug on the rear pumpkin and the axle tubes are tapered on the ends. It was under a 65 Ranchero when I got it so it is not very wide.

Before I go any further with trying to help you ID your housing I will start with a basic question. Mustangs did not have a drain plug on the housing. Are you actually referring to a fill plug? A couple of pictures on here would help a lot.

The pictures in this posting are for a '65 - in early '66 they changed to a different style/shape.

Sorry, guess I wrote that wrong. It would be the fill plug. I' get pictures and see if I can figure out how to post them.
