2 1/4" Fan spacer

  • I am seeing that the 2 1/4" fan spacer is being reproduced now, I believe the one for the HIPO is a different thickness though, but I am unsure....I have my correct original spacer on mine but wondered just how close this repro is/would be once installed for those of you that don't currently have an original??

This spacer is very nice, would work, and is the same shape, but it is not the correct length for the HiPo. The overall length of this spacer is 2 1/4". The overall length of a HiPo spacer is 2 1/16". I've had many HiPo owners buy this one to use until they can get a correct spacer.

An original HiPo spacer seems to be getting more difficult to find all of the time. Often the originals that are found are very pitted also.

  • Brant, Thanks for your reply!! I thought the HIPO spacer was a bit thinner than the standard one-I guess because of the size of the fan?

I wonder if there is enough demand for whom ever has reproduced the 2 1/4" one to tool up and make the 2 1/16" for the HIPOs?? glad I have my original!

  • Keep in mind that Ford did NOT use the mounting surface dimensions, pulley to fan, but used the total length, pulley to the pilot hub tip, as an identifier. The mounting surface dimension is 2.06, the total dimension is 2.36. Re p/n C3OZ-8546-A.

Something is not adding up here.

If a HiPo spacer is 2.360" that is way more than 2 1/16", its just shy of 2 3/8"

    <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana" size=2 id=quote>

The total length (counting the pilot tip) is 2.36". The length from the pulley to the fan is 2.06".

As jwc66K pointed out, Ford identified it with the total length of 2.36".

The original HiPo spacer is on the left. The current "2 1/4" (not counting the pilot tip) is on right.

If there is, you will learn about it here first!<img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Oh, and that 2 1/4" one was just made as a good, useable size. Especially with folks adding wider core radiators to their Mustangs. The "standard" 289 was longer than that, but I don't have that size at my fingertips right now.

Brant perhaps you can tell me what I am missing.

In the above quote you say a HiPo spacer is 2 1/16" overall.

It is accepted that a HiPo spacer is 2.360" overall.

That is not the same measurement.

    2.360 is nearly 2 3/8"

Both are given as overall measurements.

BTW it doesn't affect me as I have a 2.360" spacer.

Sorry, the 2 1/16" measurement is without the pilot tip. The 2.36" is with the pilot tip. I believe my later post is correct.

Brant, Any idea as to who actually makes them? wonder if YOU could pursuade them to reproduce the HIPO one?

    <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana" size=2 id=quote>

No guarantees at all, but I'm working on it. We will see what happens, and I'll post it here first...if it happens.

  • Anyone measured the thickness of the end material on the new one ?

If its thick enough a good lathe operator may be able to turn it down.

He would have to take a cut near the centre then work out to avoid the lumps.

A blast afterward with some coarse media and hey presto.

If they are not expensive someone ought to check it out.

I personally would not do that. Plus when you were finished, it still would be incorrect. The "end" or base of the repro. is currently the same thickness as the original HiPo spacer.

Not talking about removing material from the base, I mean taking it off the nose if it is thick enough to do.

  • Hi, I was just looking at the NPD site and saw a 289 HiPo fan spacer listed with a pn of 8546-4A with a price of $26.95.

Would this be the same as the Virginia Mustang part mentioned previously or a new repro?

    Cheers Eddie

Here is the new reproduction. I believe that you will find that the $26.95 price is incorrect.
