HiPo Long Block - what is it worth?

  • A change in Mustang restoration plans leaves me with a HiPo Long block for sale and I was hoping to get some feedback on what would be an estimated price range to expect that I could sell this for. I would appreciate any feedback. (I did the forum and ebay search - just not a lot out there to compare with) Please send me a private message with your thoughts if that works better for giving me your input.

This engine was professionally rebuilt a number of years ago. This engine has NOT been installed or run in a vehicle since the rebuild. The motor is bored to .30 over with a 10/10 crank.

Casting numbers on the block are C5AE 6015E with a build date code of 5J1, which decodes to September 1st, 1965. HiPo heads both have a “20” cast on them with date codes of 5K6 and 5C18. The intake manifold casting number is C60E 9425 B with a date code of 5E1. A VIN number is NOT present on the passenger side of the block.

    Thanks

  • Are the main caps really hipo, or are they Mexican? Is the water pump on it, and is it correct? Does it have a correct distributor, Fan, and exhaust headers ? <img src=images/icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

    Rob is probably pretty close, your actual mileage may vary... <img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

  • Is it a well-used .030 over, or is it uncut? Really, its the core question, vs, is the block down to its last rebore?? regards.<img src=images/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

Do you really think it would bring that much Rob? With the date codes of 5K6 and 5C18 on the heads and with a build date code of 5J1 on the engine makes me think it was pieced milled together with nothing matching. Couple this with the fact that it has no distributer or original fan and the price might not be that high. But, you are the expert and I certainly would yield to your estimate in this area.

  • Gary,

This seems to be the price at which engines move. Price them over 6K and they better have every hipo part and be ready to go, price them in the 3K range and they get scooped and parted out. EXPERT?? Not exactly, but I have bought a bunch of K code stuff in the past few years....

  • Rob is right on .I have purchased 3 in the last year or so. A complete less carb and fan blade 64 K motor, dissassemblied with some machining done for $4000. Another 65 complete & running with everything less some of the carb parts being correct with correct dizzy & fan for $5500. A third 66 for $4500 about 85% correct parts. All 3 have hipo main caps & not mexican caps correct balancers 2 had original exhausts manifolds. So $3500-$5000 is the range. They are out there.

Guess it is time for me to start selling my K code engines and parts.

Maybe not...the original listing was cancelled, and has been relisted with a revised description: "HAS "MEXICAN" HI-PO CAPS". Buy It Now price lowered to $1650.00. Don't ya just love eBay?
