Is there anyone that can tell me about a clutch fork that i picked up. I was told that it was from a 67 hipo mustang. It has the part number C7ZA-7541-D stamped into it. It is about 9 1/2 inches long. I tried to put it my 67 bellhousing and it will not fit over the pivet. Im starting to think that this a maybe a 6 cly fork. Does anyone have any ideas. Thanks

Welcome to the club. You have been screwed by the Ford Motor Company. Fred will be upset, but that's the way it is with the Ford part number system. Your replacement part number for a 67 HP MT is C7ZZ-7515-D and the 'book' has no cross reference to the part you have in your hand or any other marked part for 67 and earlier. Somewhere, somehow, someone has a cross reference to what you've got. The only thing I can get out of the 'book' is that a 6 cy is 9 1/4 inches long, and a HP is 12 inches long - referenced from where is an educated guess (or WAG). Other than that - zero.

Fred is not upset as he can handle this one easily. Sorry, Jim. <img src=images/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle> Sometimes it helps to have the Ford cross reference books. They do not always work out but they did on this one. The C7ZA 7541 D is the engineering number that cross references to a C7ZZ 7515 C Ford part number. This fits 67 and 68 Mustang 200 inch 6 cylinders with a 3.03 trans (except H.D. clutch) from 11/21/66 to 2/15/68. The correct one for the 67 Hipo 289 is the same as the one for a 67 and 68 Mustang and Fairlane with a 390 if that helps. That one will have an engineering number of C7ZA 7541 E and a Ford part number of C7ZZ 7515 D.

Fred,
Is that cross-reference book reproduced?

Jim, The Ford cross reference book is not reproduced and there have been quite a few of them over the years. They are available to Ford dealers on microfiche as well as books. There are still three Ford cross reference books related to parts in the era of our interest that are still available. The FPS 7425-2 volume 2 covers from September 1959 to April 1966. The FPS 7425-4 volume 4 covers April 1971 to April 1975. The FPS 7425-5 volume 5 covers April 1975 to April 1980. I mention the last two volumes because they sometimes have some of the older numbers in them. Volume 3, which you will really need, is not available as a book but is available as a microfiche. I do have the volume 3 books myself. The Ford dealer cost is $50 each. The dealer can also order two microfiche of the same information for $85 each Ford dealer cost. They would be FPS-7425-M2-4 which covers volume 2, 3 and 4 of the books. The FPS-7425-M5-7 covers volumes 5, 6 and 7 of the books. Any Ford or Lincoln-Mercury dealer parts department can order these for you. If they do not know how to look them up you can contact me. I would expect that the dealer would mark these prices up.

Fred,
Thanks. I've got a fairly good Ford dealer nearby. Now, about that microfiche reader . .

Fred,
I was at my local Ford dealer today (waranty work on my Van) and asked about the part number cross reference books and micro-fiche you listed. The parts guys said that they were not familiar those numbers and that they were not in the Ford system. Comments?

Jim, they need to go to the FPS-3642 price list, either as a paper book or on CD. It is listed under the General Information section. Quoted from the FPS-3642 CD "All forms except ultrafiche subscription items are now available for order directly through the Dealer eStore." If your dealer needs more help they are welcome to contact me.

Fred,
Thanks. I'll let them know the 'how'. It's the 'old dog' teaching the 'new dog' 'new tricks'.
