3939 S fuel pump canister ?

  • It is my understanding that the correct WHITE canister with RED decal/lettering IS NOT REPRODUCED.

I can't understand this......they are reproduced in RED with WHITE decal/lettering.....is the 289 HIPO the only engine that uses the WHITE canister?? I've ordered a RED one and will paint it WHITE and add the RED decal......what is the closest white paint color to use??

  • Well if the White with Red lettering was/is so versitle and used as everyone says they were why are THEY not reproduced?? what was the Red with White lettering used on?? it seems kind of stupid to have to buy a Red one and then paint it and buy a decal with White lettering to put on it.

Is this a copyright thing as to why the folks that reproduce them had to swap the colors??

  • There is a seller on ebay that sell a reconditioned one with a starting bid of 69.00 and they are pretty nice, i think its all classics motors ltd if you need a phone # i can email it to you thanks Otto

  • I've never done a reproduction of any part but, in looking at an orginal 1964/65 fuel filter cannister I could see where it would be diffcult to reproduce. The orginal is double ribbed at the bottom with a step up. What does the cannister you're refering to like like? There is a cannister that's similar to the orginal but not quite correct. Is there a picture any where of what you're talking about?

  • Oh... and if you start searching for an NOS white one with red lettering... be aware that some have MOTORCRAFT instead of the correct FoMoCo lettering. Some shady sellers will intentionally angle the pictures of their cannister so you can't see it says Motocraft.

  • I did a search for 1965 Mustang fuel pump canister on Google, and came up with New England Mustang Supply.

They have pictured the reproduction RED canister that looks correct to me-like my beat up original at the bottom.

I am very surprised that a large outfit like NPD doesn't carry this canister, but carries a repro that has the large HEX on the bottom which the MCA rules say may not be used.

Again I ask EXACTLY WHAT YEAR/CAR is the RED canister with WHITE writing reproduced/correct for?? anyone know??

  • OK, So at some point in time someone deceided to reproduce the canister and just by the seat of his pants deceided to do it in RED with WHITE lettering....why would someone do this--reproduce a canister in a color that evedentally was never used on a vehicle from the factory??? STUPID!!!

  • The red color coordinates very well with the Rotunda oil filter.

  • I've seen Mustang parts reproduced incorrectly before. A good example is some 1965/66 reproduction fuel tanks with the drain plug on the drivers side. (INCORRECT) The ribs on the 65/66 Mustang day/nite mirror left chrome. (Ribs should be argent, main body chrome)

Is this for the lever 64.5 early 65 style or the twist 66 style..or both?

  • The orginal mirrors that I've seen and I own a 1965 with push button type and 1966 twist type both orginal mirrors have the ribs painted Argent. The main body is chrome. Around May 1965 Ford went to the twist type mirror that carried over into 1966.

A lot of parts aren't reproduced with the intent of satisfying concours collectors and/or judges; they are reproduced to make money.

A good example are some of the valve cover decals that Olson has produced through the years for 289 high performance engines. They have been around for so long that everyone assumes they came on the motors, but they didn't. When asked why he produced them his honest answer was because people kept buying them.

  • OK, I've now got the RED canister from New England Mustang supply in my hands....and the RED lettering decal......Charles says the '65 White interior paint is very close match.....what about Wimbledon White?? is it too creamy of a White to use??
