Engine assembly date query

  • Hi all.

Forgive me if this has been asked before.

What does the letter after the machining date mean? IE, what does the R mean in 5C11R?

    Thanks,

    RP

  • It's possible you are referring to an engine's assembly date, which is stamped on the boss located at the left front side of the block just aft of the water pump...If that's the case, the last letter is an inspector's id code.

  • Are you referring to the stamping on the drivers side head surface extension or the bottom of the block (oil pan machined surface at the rear)?

    Oil pan surface = machining

    Head extension = assembly

Believe only the assembly stamping includes any dates and mentioned above
