I was wondering ....I'm in the process of rebuilding my K code engine and was wondering what timing gear and timing chain would be the best for a stock rebuild.

It depends on what year your car is. 64 1/2 - 65 1/2 used a steel gear, and after that Ford switched to a nylon covered aluminum gear. Each one requires a different cam spacer.
To answer your original question though, I would recomend going with the nylon/aluminum gear for a street engine. They are silent, run more smoothly, transfer torsional load more smoothly,....they have several benefits. That's the reason Ford upgraded to the aluminum style.
The downside is that they wear out slightly sooner.

There are several different versions that were used on the K powerplant. Do a search for "Cloyes" They were an OEM supplier and still make the timing sets for the hi-po engines. Here is one of the threads that will help you on your quest.

RockAuto.com carries some of the Cloyes gears.
