H pipe interchange

does anyone know if a " standard H-pipe" fits a hipo- exhaust manifold equipped 289 Mustang?

The hi-po exhaust manifolds are longer and stick down further than the regular ol' A & C code 289's. Different H-pipe for a hi-po.

the guys selling this on ebay might also make one that fits the hipos. I'll try and find out.

Not to shy away from EBAY, but why not have a local muffler shop take care of it for about the same price or less? That way they can measure everything on your car for the proper fit. While they're at it, have them increase the diameter to 2-1/4" - 2-1/2" for better exhaust flow. Also keep in mind to have the ends of the HPipe bolt in, that way if you ever need to work on the transmission....

Nope. I have an NOS h-pipe that had surface rust that has been bead blasted, painted, and installed for a short period of time, got dinged for it being painted (rusty the judge said, lol) so replaced it with a Motive aluminized pipe for show. If you are buying a repro make sure it is made by Motive, others don't fit. The Repro pipe I got from NPD didn't fit (couldn't verify if it was a Motive) but I KNOW K.A.R. sells the correct Motive pipe. I'll let my slightly used NOS pipe (with Ford #s stamped in it and the correct stop) go for $100 if you are interested, otherwise I'd recommend the Motive pipe.

Dunc, the Motive H-pipes fit very nice. I guess it boils down to whether you want original Ford parts or reproduction. I wanted original Ford which is why I purchased this h-pipe in the first place, being dinged for it in concours bugged me so I changed it out for the Motive piece. I initially purchased the entire Motive exhaust system less the h-pipe since I had the NOS piece, got dinged for it so bought the h-pipe later. Then I gashed a hole in it loading the kar on my old open trailer and bought one from NPD as they were supposed to be Motive. The pipe from NPD did NOT fit worth a crap so I ordered another on from K.A.R. and it again fit like a dream. I believe NPD may be a few dollars less than K.A.R. but I had problems with fit with the NPD pipe. I never pressed the issue with NPD so I don't know if they are selling Motive for sure or not, in my case the pipe purchased from NPD did not fit the rest of the exhaust system after being built with an NOS pipe, the K.A.R. pipe fit perfectly both times. I will be taking pictures of the NOS pipe for gtk, I would be glad to send them to you as well. You have first dibs if you want it since I offered it to you initially. Let me know if you want pics...
