block codes

Well, hope this question is not to stupid, but here goes.

I was offered a 289 cheap. While looking over the engine (aftermarket intake and value covers) I noted the following casting numbers on the block:

D10E 8015-AA

2B10

I am thinking that it is a 1972 302 block but wanted to get some input. Any comments appreciated.

You are probably right. The engine was sitting in the back of a van that is slowly rusting into the ground. Between the rust, lighting and angle it is very probable that the digit was a six not an eight.
