• Went to adjust my original K carb for the first time and found the pass. side mixture screw broken off at the housing. Never saw this before. Can't turn it out. The boys at Pony carb cringed at the thought of me trying to drill it out because the carb is so rare. They sent me a new screw and spring but STRONGLY suggested I send it to them for the fix. Any other ideas? Thanks, Ed

  • Unless you have a lot of experience extracting broken screws I would recommend you allow a very qualified professional to do it. One misguided drill bit and you could be in real trouble.

  • unless there is some of the screw sticking out that you can grab hold of, I would let them do it. I wouldn't think it is seized in the hole so maybe you will get lucky. A few years ago, they removed a broken screw from my choke linkage. After I broke 4 drill bits and was still off center, I gave up.

  • I wouldn't attempt it on a rare HiPo carb unless I could set up a fixture in a mill or drill press to make sure everything was true. I NEVER get the drill bit to hold in the center - it always walks - and once it does you're ....... well you know!

I'd let them do it unless you have access to a good machine shop.

  • Thanks for all your advise guys.I am going to drive it the way it is til the end of the summer. Then I will remove the carb and do my best to turn it loose without drilling. If I have no luck I will send it to Pony carb. Always something! Just this morning I went to open the trunk and the cylinder came out with the key. I suppose I need a new lock assy now. Fun Fun Fun. Good night....Ed
