Best Brake Pads/Shoes

  • Hi All!

Restoration of 06F08K going well but a little slower than I'd anticipated. The car is painted and ready for re-assembly. I'd be happy to add some photos but still haven't figured out how to do this, even though there is a "button" in the Format tool bar to do so.

    What's the secret?

I have a question regarding brake pad/shoe materials. This car has no power brakes so I'd like to use pads and shoes with best material for the most effective stopping performance, cold and hot. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Bill

get some kevlar pads, more $$$, but work real well.

    Thanks for the info.

What is good source for Kevlar pads? Is Kevlar available for rear shoes? I'm told a material called 685 Abex (ABex?)is good for rear shoes. I believe it's a material used for heavy truck shoes.

  • performance at any cost is a personal choice, but HIGHER performance is a good thing, since everything wears out!!! get the better stuff, we aren't puting 15-20k miles on our cars per year, get great performance, thats what they were conceived for and what they do best. The better pads have their faults but in the end, lopo pads are just that. imho. :D

  • Unless you're racing the car on a track, regular old parts store pads will work better for you. If the car is going to be limited use, you probably don't even need the 'life time warranty' pads/shoes they sell. The cheap ones usually have the benefit of squeaking less.

Another thing to consider if you have custom wheels-some manufacturers offer 'low dust' pads to keep your wheels nice and clean.
