65 dimensions diagram

  • i have a question about the dimension diagram on pg 17-7

    in the 65 owner's manual

(hopefully i am not imfringing on any copyright laws here,

and if i am, i will delete the pic)

there are 3 basic lengths in this diagram

    73.78 48.50 and 46.50

but......the end one ie 46.50 is drawn as longer

then the middle one (48.50) on the diagram!!!!!!!

it is obviously not drawn to scale

but see no markings indicating this!!

    what's the deal?

    thanks

  • also, the measurement across the rear

of the front inner rails is listed as 19.84

    and mine is ~ 35"!!!!!!!

i see that the width across the front

of the rear inner rails is 37.62 and this is okay

    wow!

surely, someone has picked up these discreptancies

and posted a thread about them

would like to have correct dimensions before

    i build my subframe jig

  • In the 66 Shop Manual, the dimension is shown as 29.84 so somewhere along the line someone fixed it. As to scale, almost all original drawings state not to scale, but in the conversion from a draftsman rendition to a service manual, "things" happen and design notes and other parts of the drawing are trimmed away. In this case, the outline may have been boiler plate and the dimensions added for different applications.

  • i have called dynacorn

and requested exact dimensions of their floor repro

i'll be excited to see what i get.

guess i'll have to crawl under my son's car

    and take some measurements

and see how they line up with mine

  • Those dimension are measured from the center of the datum hole. The long dimensions, 72.78, 48.50 and 46.50, are measured perpendicular to their holes from the centerline of the car. In other word, do not measure from hole to hole over the length of the car.

  • A datum point is every one of the holes on the drawing where the dimension lines cross or originate from. On the car they are the studs that stick up on the assembly frame, or were studs on a welding frame where pieces were positioned then welded.

  • i don't realy understand these points of reference.

at least i can get the ones from the 'baseline'

    i can't believe they acutally measured s.t.

    without using fractions
