Door striker plates

I recently purchased some nos door striker plates in sealed factory wrappers from an e-bay vender. They were advertised as original plates for a 65 mustang. The part that sticks out that the door latch would close around is more oval shaped (like a football), and the ones on my car are more round. Part number for the new nos ones are

C5AZ-6222008-A Are these the right ones for a 65 mustang?

Sounds like you bought 67/8 striker plates.

Here's a picture of a '67 door striker plate for you to compare it with. I checked out the part number you provided and it certainly looks like they are for a '67.

Thanks for the photo, yes that is what they look like. Why do they have a C5AZ part number then? Wouldn't they have a C6 or C7 part number for a 67-8?

The part number is a service part for a full size Ford that is also used to replace 67 and 68 Mustangs. It also will fit a 66 to 71 Fairlane, 65 to 71 T-Bird, 66 to 70 Falcon and probably a bunch of Mercury products. Ford used a lot of 'common' parts.
