WHEN DID THE 4 SPEED LINKAGE CHANGE?

  • Hello all! It's been awhile!I was wondering when Ford changed from the early bent style 4 sp linkage to the later style? Also I am assuming the early 4 screw mount shifter bezel was also changed at the same time?!My Kar is Jan 65 production. Thanks!Randy

  • I did some research on this a while ago and got in touch with Bill Heeley, the shifter linakge rebuilder. He thought late in the '64 calendar year, but did not have specifics. We have run a thread on this before here and it turned out that the angle shifter was found on cars through December. One of the SAAC guys, Craig Connelly at Paradise Wheel, told me that they considered them to be required for concours cars through Jan. of '65. I can't say how he supported that, perhaps from SAAC registration experience; I know he has owned a lot K codes himself. Unfortunately, I can't find the thread for you.

  • Dave,

Craig Conley probably meant 65 Shelbys that

were finished in Jan 65. The first 113 Shelbys

were built at Ford before Christmas 64 so they

have been equipped with the sharp curved shifter.

  • Bo,

Correct; I should have been clearer. I think the cars he was referring to had SJ build dates in Dec. Does that sound right to you?? Team Shelby Speegle may know.<img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

  • Thanks again all!You are as always very helpful.I want to restore my Kar the best I can,but if I don't need the bent linkage it's fine cos these are much harder to find.I was also curious as to the type of shifter plate,I really can't see the area around the shifter to verify if it had 4 holes for the early plate or not. Thanks,Randy
