Installing Intake Manifold with Cork Gaskets?

  • I'm ready to install my aluminum intake on my 67 GT 350. Was going to use Ford intake gaskets. What about the two end cork gaskets, if I run a small bead of sealant on the top and bottom of them and at each corner, will that work? There is also the option of omitting the cork gaskets and running a heavy bead of sealant. If the cork gaskets will seal, I would rather go that route to keep the original look. Any comments on this? Randy

  • I glue the cork gaskets to the block with 3M weather strip adhesive. Let set. Then put a thin coat of silicone on top and dabs at the corners. The weather strip adhesive keeps the cork in place till the silicone sets.

  • I've always just set the cork in place (no sealer) and put only a tiny dab of sealer on each corner. I've always had good luck with this method on SBF.

That usually works only if the engine is not in the car. That rear gasket can be a rascal if the engine is in the car
