Replacement Axle Tag

  • I received my axle tag from today and after reading the archives I'm not so sure it is correct.

    Top Line: DSO - C6ZX - B

    Bottom Line: 3. 89 6BB 925

    NO FORD LOGO

Door tag information is as follows:

    Body: 63B Color: V Trim: F4 Date: 02C DSO: 32 Axle: 8 Trans: 5

Can anyone verify if my tag is correct or not?

    Thanks for your help..... Gary

I don't know about 66 but this is from a 65. Maybe it will help you out.

Thanks Dave for your reply. It seems my tag is way different than your 65 original.

  • Gary

According to the Mustang 64.5-70 Restoration Guide your tag

should read something like this . . .

WCZ-R (Axle code for 1966 Mustang with 3:89 gear ration)

    3:89 followed by _ _ _ Date built/year.month.week _ _ _ plant code

  • Gary,

The tag you got is a 66 Shelby type and is almost identical to the original on my 66 GT350 which reads:

    DSO C6ZX-B (Top line)

    3.89 6BD 925 (Bottom line)

There is no Ford logo. No idea why the Shelby tags were different but they were. An "X" in the part number usually meant it was a competition part.

Can we ask where you got your tag from?

    <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana" size=2 id=quote>

Yes, I got it from Marti Auto Works.

  • Although there are Ford licensing agreements in place with many vendors there are certain trademarks that Ford won't allow reproduced on parts. I don't know any of the nuances of this rule, but I have heard from different parts suppliers. Pony Carbs said they can't use Fomoco on tags while back. This was supposed to be the reason they were putting Autolite on all the repro carb tags. In their case it may have been their own situation with respect to licensing. Perhaps Ford will allow licensed products, but not licensed tags because they could be applied to products built by others.

  • Dave, I don't think that is the case with Marti because I got my engine tag about a week ago and it has the Ford logo on it. I think they just got my tag mixed up with someone else's tag.

    Thanks, Gary

Dave... Now if I just had a GT350 to put this tag on I would be very happy.<img src=images/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> Thanks for the helpful information. I think it is clear after seeing your post that Marti got my tag info mixed up with someone else's information.

    Thanks... Gary

That's what I did when I ordered my engine tag from them. I didnt want them to guess what should be there.

Holiday special: buy the Shelby diff tag for $150K and they'll give you a free GT350.

Good to hear you can get the logo on the repro tags.

    Good one Dave!

  • Larry.... Sure, I was just going to return it to Marti anyway. You can have it for $27.00. $20.00 for the tag, $5.00 for layout fee and $2.00 for postage. That's exactly what I paid for it. PM me your address and I will send it out to you on Tuesday.

I am going to contact Marti on Tuesday and if we get lucky and they don't want the old tag back then it will only cost you for shipping.

    Gary

  • Speaking of differentials, I seem to recall you can determine your gear ratio by rotating the rear wheel and counting the times the drive shft rotates. I'm lost from there. Someone care to share the math with me.

    Thanks...SteveP

  • Round2K,

1 to 1 would be the 4th gear ratio. This car is an automatic and we are turning the rear wheel with it in neutral trying to detemine the rear end gear ratio with out opening her up and counting teeth.
