Originally was unsure what was written on rear end of my San Jose car (5R09K125001) After further cleaning, the "SNY" turned out to say "#9 SNYDER", so took detailed pictures and put all rear end markings back as i found them.

  • Nice looking third member. I do have a question. Was the bumper bracket and bolts that attaches it to the third member red oxide prior to your detailing it? The ones I've seen were of a natural finish. Just curious

  • Some interior shots before we removed everything, close-up of accent stripe, and more markings on rear end.

Note the odd White AND Red paint marks on the springs. I was told there should have only been one set of paint drips per spring. Clearly shows two here, and are present on both springs.

  • Hi,

In an earlier discussion about front springs the white

markings indicated that the spring rates were borderline on the

low end when tested. Search earlier posts and you will

    find this discussion.

Let me try to clarify a few things in this discussion. I have checked the 1965-72 Ford Parts Master Catalog again, and the color code daubs are RED for C5ZZ-5310-F and BROWN for C5ZZ-5310-E. So I believe there is a typo in Mad4HiPos's note regarding the colors.

With respect to kar-nut's info from the released Engineering drawing - the part he has described has an Engineering part number of C4ZA-5310-E, and a Service part number of C5ZZ-5310-F. Note that the prefix and the suffix of the Engineering number and the Service number do not always match.

With regard to Charle's note about the springs with white stripes, here is a quote from a footnote under the Mustang front coil spring chart on page #100 of my 1965 Ford Parts and Accessories Catalog:

"The load pounds figure shown indicates the Mean load. Usually there is a variance of 30 to 50 lbs. plus or minus of the load pounds indicated in the chart. If the tested load rate is on the mean to low limits, a white stripe is shown in addition to the other identification markings."

It appears they tested the springs, and the weaker ones got white stripes in addition to their standard markings. So, it is quite possible you would see springs with white stripes, and, obviously, they would be used in pairs.

Hope this helps to clear some things up.

    regards,

  • This looks like a good place to re-start on coil springs.

I pulled mine off my Oct 65 San Jose "K" car and found a brown stripe on each. My question is the location of the stripes. Yes they are vertical so that is not in question. Further up this post is a visible spring stripe. Looking at what Charles has on his blogs http://65kresto.blogspot.com/ and other pages, his coil springs are striped so as to be visible when the springs are installed as well. I would assume for a visible aid to QA too.

Mine are definately on the opposite side about 45 degrees from the bottom end, not visible when installed. (I don't do a proxy picture post but will e-mail picture upon request).

The question is - where are the stripes located?
