Would you spend the money

  • Hi Everyone,

I was speaking to an owner over here In Australia of a 64.5 k code. Car was ground up restored in 2002 to MCA concours specs. Havent seen it in person but the pics are georgous.

The Kar has a close ratio gearbox but not the correct type for a 64.5 K. The owner can get a correct box (HEH-S) but the cost shipped over here + price will be around $3200 aud.

He's wanting opinions - Being such a rare car + box, is it worth the $$$ for future resale?

I don't know anyone that can predict what the re-sale market will be. Any investment has risk.

  • Depends on the rest of the car. Are all other stuff correct

including date codes etc. If so I would go for it and sell

the one he has in the car. However, only if the new one has no

serial number stamped into it. If it does it won't make much of

    a difference in my book.

  • I think having the original type/style on the shelf is huge....put anything in the sucker that will fit without modification, but for heaven sakes, have what it had originally on the shelf.... its too hard to go scrambling to find it when the buyer is standing there with cash in hans and you say, " oh, as for that I'll go get that and then we have a deal, right?"..... NOT... he's not going to hang... anyone else????

  • Rohan,

When Mal Wood(In Warwick,Qld) reconditioned my c/ratio top loader, he said I "now have something worth at least $3000, if you can find one!" That was about 5 years ago, so I'm thinking that outlay is probably about market value here, so long as not too much work is required to have it usable.

It depends on how badly the owner wants the car to be "right".

    Hope this helps. Phil.
