Arvindoe article in July issue Mustang Monthly

  • Just read the article in the July issue of Mustang Monthly and wish to make a correction to an overall good article. My friend Steve Ball did the restoration on my dad's 65 K code and he took the picture of the exhaust lying on the garage floor , not Charle Turner. I am not sure if Charles had anything to do with the article, but it did note he supplied to pic of a car he was restoring ( I supplied the pic to Charles and he had no part with the restoration) I am sure it is an oversight and I hope that Charles will contact Jim Smart and Donald Farr for the correction. Dave Wallace actually did all the hard work with the exhaust , all I did was supply a picture and as it turned out assisted the group with the reproduction.

  • I haven't seen the article yet. Jim Smart collected all the information from me last year and I suggested he contact Charles Turner, Bob Mannel, Tom Glotkowski, Herb Gordon and some of the other fellows. I knew Jim was woking on it and hope he did a good job.

  • Charles , I stated that the oversight was not yours, but Jim Smart. I just want proper credit given where due. In this case Dave did all the legwork to get the Arvinode system reproducedand thus deserves the credit. Perhaps you can contact the folks at Mustang Monthly for the correction in regard to whose car the exhaust was removed from. No hard feelings just want to make the account of events accurate. Thanks for helping to straighten out this matter. See everyone in Raleigh!

  • I went to great lengths to explain to Jim that the project was a team effort. There is no way we would have been successful without the teamwork of this forum and, equally important, the willingness of Waldron's Antique Exhaust to work with us. I hope that made it into the article.

  • I just read the article. Don't really see what all the fuss is about. It does not specifically state that I restored your car Herb. If anything, makes me look foolish for throwing away the old rusty system... which I never even physically saw or laid hands on.

It looks like a very minor error that can be corrected with a follow-up in the next Mustang Monthly.

  • System fits perfect andI had it welded at a local muffler shop, Sounds Great! Charles, I stated that I knew it was an oversight and that it was listed incorrectly, No fuss at all, I dont mind being listed as the dummy who threw away a valuable piece of FoMoCo history, just wish to have it listed correctly for prospeity, As stated no hard feelings and I knew it was a simple error. I dont want you to think I am angry just want it noted correctly, I am sure you would want the same done if the roles were reversed. I hope to see many K code owners in Raleigh in July

  • Herb,

I think Jim did a great job on the article, and made a point of mentioning a lot of names of folks that were involved in the project. It was a complicated story to tell and he did a fair job of distilling it to include everyone.

The oversight in the restoration of your car is the only detail I can see that had any error, and I completely understand how it happened. I told Jim that Charles had been restoring a K code similar to mine when he sent me that photo, and that is correct. Charles made a point of telling everyone that the system was from your car from the very beginning, and it's the reason I started corresponding with you regarding the authenticity of hangers. If there is any error in the information and the way Jim rendered it I take full responsibility and apologize as I supplied the facts. On balance Jim did a great job of pointing out that the HiPo forum was the common denominator in our shared success in "bringin' back the roar".

    Dave
