I've traced previous owners of my 66 K Koupe back to a Mr Neely who bought it from a Marvin Jones in Winter Park Florida in late 66. He told me that Jones bought it straight from Dearborn (my car does have a Dearborn DSO) and that Jones bought Mustangs from 65-67 at a discount straight from Dearborn and was in a regional drag racing program partially sponsored by Ford. Jones supposedly raced throughout Florida from 65-67 and kept each Mustang anywhere from 3 to 6 months before selling them. I spoke to a friend who owns several Ford dealerships in Georgia and Tennessee and he told me that Ford was involved in different drag racing programs and that it was possible the info I got was correct. Anyone heard of this type program and any idea how to trace if a Marvin Jones was connected to it???

Steve, please send me that info along with your VIN and any dates that you have and I will add it to your registration- good stuff. If anyone else has any history information like that and have not sent it to me, please do. Thanks.
I don't know of any minor sponsorship programs Ford had, but I do know that Chrysler had some- I had 2 friends in the Chrysler program.

I can tell you that Ford did have a drag team program for the Hipo cars and you could buy them like you wanted to go racing. You can tell dealership drag cars as most were ordered for dealership or customer and they left alot of things off and mostly what you got was a stripped down Hipo Mustang.I've got a July/Aug.built 64.5-65 Dearborn drag car that was raced from day one thru 1973 then parked.Your car should be delete of radio, heater, under coating, seam sealer and any sound deadner. My car has sub frame connectors and under ride weld on traction bars that owner contracted done when car was new.According to Smart and Haskell they built 12 of these cars to go G/S AHRA or C/S NHRA racing and they say they have accounted for 6 cars.I know that Ed Terry,Bob Hamilton and Billy Edwards just to name a few had cars.Another 65 I think was found by someone on this board last year.Haven't heard anymore about that car though.

In 1964, my neighbor bought a 64 Hipo Fairlane from North Brothers Ford in Garden City Michigan. It had been raced by North Brothers and came as it was raced, still lettered with North Brother's logo, "White Lightening", 190 proof, 289HP, when he purchased it. I believe he ran C/S at Detroit, that car had also set a national recored for the 1/8th mile in the fall of 63.

I have been trying to locate the original owner of my ’66 K Code. Marvin Jones of Winter Park, Fl. was the original owner. I found out he passed away years ago. I also found out he was a friend of Carl Weisinger. Carl owns Speedworld Dragstrip in Orlando. I spoke with Carl. He remembered Marvin and used to drag race against Carl back in the 60’s. .He also remembered that Marvin drove and raced many high performance Fords back in the 60's and 70's, he even remembered him driving a ‘66 Mustang.
Here is a list of all owners:
Original owner: Marvin Jones, Winter Park Fl, owned the car in 1966
2nd owner: Tom Neeley, Orlando, Fl, owned the car from late 1966-1975
3rd owner: Steve Meeks, Deland, Fl, owned the car from 1975-1998
4th owner: Fred McHugh, Deltona, Fl, owned the car from 1998-2000, Fred never drove
the car he bought it to restore, never did and sold it to me.
5th owner: Myself, 2000-present
So the car has had 5 owners since 1966 and all have been within a 40 mile radius of Orlando. All owners except for Marvin are still around (I have all phone numbers) and each of them are willing to share information they have about the car. I thought it was pretty neat to speak with them about the car and hear some of their "war stories".

It looks like you did a great job in being able to trace your Kars history all the way back. I am sure that few people, with so many owners of a car, have been so fortunate.

I have the names of all three previous owners of my kar but have been unable to locate the first two. I'd rather not find the second owner from the stories I got from the third owner. Second owner only had the kar for 6 months and nearly destroyed it while getting himself thrown in jail in the process. I'm still in touch with the third owner, I have a funny feeling the first owner is no longer with us. Kar was in southern Illinois its entire life until I bought it in 79 and brought it up to central Illinois.

Have been in personal contact with both of the previous owners of my kar. The original owner now lives in Scottsdale AZ, and gave me the details of how he happened to purchase the car. He wanted to buy a Shelby but was a little short of cash, and returned the next week to Hawkinson Ford in Chicago with additional funds to "do" the deal. To his surprise, the Shelby was gone, and to the son of the owner of Hawkinson Ford. The salesman told him he could have the Mustang originaly ordered for the son, which was the 65 K fastback, with about every option on the order sheet. So it was a second choice purchase. A purchase I am happy he was forced to make. The original owner installed a boat hitch on the car and used it for towing his boat. He sold it in 75 for $1800.00 to the guy I purchased it from. He was an attorney in the Chicago area and appreciated the unique nature of a deluxe interior high option KGT and drove it little. I purchased it from him in 85 for $5600.00 and the car now has only 85ooo miles on the clock. Have the title history, owners manual showing original owner name and purchase date, & hipo owners manual still in the glove box. Sometimes you get lucky! The next owner will be determined at my estate sale or possibly my son may want to keep it . Right now it can count on staying in my stewardship where it has been for over 22 years.
